L3_S23_ Sentences with Conjunction

Conjunctions are used to combine two or more objects, phrases, or clauses. They can also be termed as connectors.

In other words, A conjunction is a word or phrase that connects words, phrases, clauses, and sentences together.

Generally, there are 4 types of Conjunctions.

1.    Coordinating Conjunctions- Coordinating conjunctions are single words. They link equivalent grammatical elements, such as nouns with nouns, and clauses with clauses.

2.    Correlative conjunctions-  Correlative conjunctions work in pairs. Similar to coordinating conjunctions, they link grammatical elements of similar importance.

3.    Subordinating Conjunctions- Subordinating conjunctions are one or more words that unite ideas in a complex sentence. They link dependent clauses (incomplete thoughts) to independent clauses (complete thoughts).

4.    Conjunctive Adverbs- Conjunctive adverbs are one or more words used to join two independent clauses. These words are technically adverbs, but perform the same linking function as conjunctions.

Unless you speak only in simple sentences, you use conjunctions in every sentence. Conjunction helps to avoid writing and speaking simple sentences that repeat many things and it gives a connection and meaning to the sentences together.

Examples

Coordinating conjunctions- I work quickly and carefully.

Correlative conjunctions- Jerry is neither rich nor famous.
