L3_S19_ This, That, These, and Those
‘This’, ‘That’, ‘These’, and ‘Those’ are demonstrative
pronouns and determiners used to identify someone or something.
The word 'this' is used to point to a singular
person or object that is close or that is just mentioned. On the other hand,
'these' is used to point to many persons or objects that are close or just
mentioned.
The plural form of ‘This’ is ‘These’.
The word 'that' is used to point to a singular
person or object that is far or something mentioned before. On the other hand,
'those' points to many persons or objects that are far away or something mentioned
before.
The plural form of ‘That’ is ‘Those’.
Uncountable nouns such as 'water', 'tea',
'butter', 'milk', 'air', 'rice', 'anger', 'money', 'information', etc. have no
plural form. So, we must use 'this' or 'that' to indicate them.
