A Noun is
simply a naming word. It is a word used to refer to the name of a person,
place, or animal.
Kinds/ Classification of Nouns:
Nouns are classified in different ways. The following are some of the common classifications.
Proper Nouns
Common Nouns
Concrete Nouns
A proper noun is the name given to a particular thing or a person. Example: Priyanka and Pari are brother and sister.
Common Nouns:
A common noun is the name given to all things or persons of a kind (book, school, bag). Example: The girl and the boy shared the work.
Concrete Nouns:
A noun denoting a material object rather than an abstract quality, state, or action. They describe physical things that can be sensed: seen, touched, heard, smelled, or tasted. Example: The dog is between the tree and the building.
Collective
Nouns:
Words that are used to name the collection of persons or things are called collective nouns. Examples: Herd of animals, a bunch of grapes, swarm of bees, etc.
Abstract Nouns:
Abstract nouns are used to name qualities, feelings, or experiences (honesty, happiness, Hard work, etc.). Example: Honesty is the best policy.
Compound Nouns:
A compound noun is a noun that is made with two or more words. Examples: Bedroom, Fish food, Playschool, etc.
Countable Nouns:
Countable nouns are the names of things that we can count. Examples: Book, Pencil, Oranges, etc.
Uncountable Nouns:
Uncountable
nouns are the names of the things which we cannot count. Uncountable nouns
denote collective substances and abstracts. Examples: Honesty, Purity, Milk, etc.
